The Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES v.1/04) was first introduced in Canada in 2004 as a tool to comprehensively evaluate, describe and communicate the complexities of avalanche terrain exposure.
Since then the system has been adopted in many jurisdictions worldwide, including Norway, where the Klassifisering av snøskredterreng (KAST) was adopted nationwide.
This presentation will describe Parks Canada's work to update the ATES into a version 2.
